Privacy Policy
Motion Steady is a comfort overlay for PC gaming. It is designed so that there is nothing to leak: it collects nothing, sends nothing, and works entirely on your device. This policy explains exactly what exists on your machine and why.
The short version
- Motion Steady has no accounts, no telemetry and no network use. It never sends data anywhere.
- Your settings and playtime history are stored in two local files on your device, and nothing else.
- Game detection reads only the foreground window's process name and title, using the same read-only Windows access Task Manager uses. It never injects into, hooks, or reads the memory of any game.
- This website sets no cookies and runs no analytics.
What the app does not collect
There is no account system, so we never have your name, email or payment details. The app contains no analytics, no crash reporting, no advertising and no tracking of any kind. It makes no network requests of its own. If you never tell us you use Motion Steady, we have no way of knowing.
What is stored on your device
Motion Steady keeps two files on your machine, in your user profile at %APPDATA%\com.motionsteady.desktop\:
- config.json: your profiles, element settings, hotkeys, game bindings and preferences.
- sessions.db: a small local database of play sessions (start, end, which game), used for the stats view.
Both files stay on your device. They are never uploaded, synced or shared. You can delete your entire session history with one click in the Stats tab, or remove the files yourself at any time. Uninstalling the app leaves them behind unless you delete them, in case you reinstall and want your settings back.
What the app reads
To switch profiles per game, the app asks Windows which window is currently in the foreground, and maps it to a process name. This is read-only access, the same kind Task Manager needs to list a process name. Window titles are used only to help you recognize a game in the list of detected apps.
Motion Steady never injects code into, hooks, or reads the memory of any game process. Its overlay is an ordinary always-on-top window drawn by the Windows compositor.
Steam
If you run the Steam version, Motion Steady initializes the Steamworks SDK so it can integrate with the Steam client. This is standard behavior for Steam software, and your relationship with Steam is governed by Valve's terms:
- The Steam Subscriber Agreement covers your purchase and use of the app on Steam.
- Valve's Privacy Policy covers what Valve collects as the store operator.
The app itself only reads your Steam persona name and app ID to display them in its About screen. It does not read your friends list, library, or any other Steam data.
This website
This site is static: no cookies, no analytics, no embedded third-party scripts (aside from a web font), and no forms. Our web host may keep standard server logs, like every website, but we do not use them to profile you because there is nothing to profile.
Children
Motion Steady is not directed at children under 13, and because the app collects nothing, no personal information about children is collected either.
Changes to this policy
If the app ever gains a feature that changes this picture, for example optional cloud sync, we will update this page and clearly mark what changed before the feature ships. The "last updated" date above will always reflect the current version.
